Executive Director & Founder
Derik Malone
Derik’s ability to effectively communicate with the student-athlete, his vast leadership experience, and his keen understanding of the college recruiting and admissions process enable him to develop programs at Aim High that will help any student improve his or her chances of gaining admission into the college of their choice and, if so desired, play intercollegiate sports at that institution. With over 20 years experience as a basketball player and coach at the high school and collegiate level, Derik is able to provide counseling and education that will help develop the skills necessary for student-athletes to achieve their academic and athletic goals.
A native to the Boston area where his love of sports was fostered on the basketball court, baseball and football fields, Derik learned early on that talent and passion for sports would need to be balanced by a respect for the game and the ability to become a leader in the classroom, on the playing field and in the community. Growing up, Derik attended many of the regions top basketball camps and was a 1986 graduate of Boston College High School where he was elected captain of the basketball team during his senior year. He went on to enjoy a stand-out career at Babson College where he was once again elected captain. During his senior season, his team won 20 games for only the second time in the program’s 25 year history. Upon graduation from Babson in 1991, Derik went to work in the private sector and earned his MBA from the University of the Pacific in 1995. After a number of years working in various senior level leadership positions on both a local and national level, Derik returned to the Boston area and combined his love of sports with his talents as a mentor, teacher and coach.
As former assistant basketball coach at Stonehill College, Derik's responsibilities included recruiting, on-court instruction, and academic mentoring. His ability to effectively communicate with passion and purpose was instrumental in recruiting and instructing the Stonehill team that reached the Division 2 Final Four in 2006. Derik is also an instructor at Massasoit Community College where he teaches a number of business courses.
